The History of DCA
Phase I - A Christian Pre-School (1980 - 1983) Dayspring Early Learning Center began operating in the fall of 1980 in a commercial building on North Main Street in Blacksburg to provide a totally Christian preschool program for families of Dayspring Christian Fellowship and the local community. The school was relocated to 505 Clay Street in 1981 upon completion of the Dayspring Christian Center. The new facility allowed expansion in both the scope of activities and class size.
Phase II - A Church-run K-12 School (1983 - 1998) During the next two years, there was a growing feeling in the Dayspring Community that this instructional program should be expanded to include academic training through high school. After an extended period of prayer, fasting, and conferences with Christian educators, in February 1983, the Dayspring Christian Community made the decision to establish an academy that would provide quality, Christ-centered education from kindergarten through 12th grade. Classes began in the fall of 1983 with a headmaster reporting to the Fellowship Board.
Phase III - An Independent Christian K-12 School (1998 - Present) Today the Academy has prospered and grown, recently having one of only two National Merit Scholars from the Blacksburg area. Its growth has now made it possible to enter the inevitable next phase of its development, an assisted but separate academic entity. In the summer of 1998, with the cooperation of the Dayspring Fellowship, a parent and faculty elected board appointed an administrator and new bylaws to make it possible to expand the reach and potential of the Academy. Dayspring Christian Academy is now an INDEPENDENT, parent run Christian school with a long term goal of accreditation within the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) of which it is a member.
